Everything you need to know about Microneedling

If you're looking to boost collagen and elastin, improve the look of scars, even skin tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, microneedling is a great treatment that is minimally invasive. Thanks to new technologies, and the promotion of microneedling through social media platforms, microneedling has become a staple treatment in medi spas.

What is Microneedling?

With the use of either a microneedle roller system (learn about our microneedle roller system here), or through the use of a microneedling pen (in which we use for our treatments, pictured above), they fundamentally perform the same function: the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin.

This is important as collagen is the most abundant protein found in our body and it is responsible for holding together the connective tissues such as skin, muscles, tendons, cartilage and bones. It also what keeps us youthful looking. Since Collagen is so important, we want to continue the production of it in our skin as the production naturally slows down by 1% every year after the age of 20, which attributes to aging of the skin.

Why Microneedle?

Microneedling has many great benefits for your skin. It helps with the reduction of wrinkles and stretch marks. It also helps with the reduction of acne scarring and skin discolouration and pigmentation. It helps to rejuvenate the skin to a more youthful look by boosting collagen and elastin. It also helps with the absorption of serums and products.

Is there Any Downtime?

Thankfully, Microneedling isn't an invasive treatment like plastic surgery, therefore the recovery time is minimal. You may notice some skin irritation and redness 24-48 hours after the treatment. This is a normal occurrence to the controlled 'trauma' to the skin by the needles. Many people go to school or work the following day, while others may wait 24 hours prior to returning. After 24 hours, you may apply cover-up make-up if you prefer as the redness dissipates. Purging may occur if you have not had treatments in more recent times. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so a UV protectant is necessary.

You will notice that your skin will work quickly to rejuvenate new tissue and should see results only a few weeks in. In many cases, multiple treatments are necessary to gain the results that our clients are looking for. Your medical aesthetician will advise you on the best plan of action based on your individual goals.

We recommend Hyaluronic Acid with the At-Home Microneedle Roller Kit

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in skin known for its stunning capacity to attract and hold onto one thousand times its weight in moisture. It works overtime by replenishing skin to enhance a healthy, supple look and feel. With our at-home microneedle kit, we recommend the use of our Skinprovement Organics Simply Hyaluronic Replenishing Gel during the application of the rollers.
