DERMAPLANING FACIAL

Our Signature Treatment

$95

Skinprovement Medi Spa & Laser Clinic is proud to be one of the first clinics to offer Dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning is a process of exfoliation that our clients enjoy in many treatments offered at this clinic. It helps to exfoliate the epidermis and rid the skin of vellus hair (peach fuzz). Using a surgical blade, our Medical Aestheticians abrades the surface of the skin. This procedure removes the outer layers of the dead skin cells leaving the skin feeling smooth, supple and vibrant. By removing the vellus hair, this helps to remove build up of dirt and oils in the follicles.

What does This Treatment Include?

This 55-minute treatment includes cleansing, dermaplaning, manual extractions, massage, application of serums, mask and day protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any downtime for this treatment?

There is no downtime for this treatment. However, for clients that have sensitive skin or more reactive skin types, there may be a pink hue to their skin post-treatment. Any treatment that stimulates the skin may cause irritation. If this is your first treatment, or the first in a while (more than two months), purging (small breakouts) of the skin may appear. Long-term, this is amazing for preventing clogged pores and breakouts, leaving your skin smooth and clear. The good news, however, is that the purging effect on your skin is temporary. Once these pimples have cleared up, your skin will look healthier and clearer than ever. (Please see post-treatment care). With any extractions, some swelling in the areas that are treated can take place. If you do not wish to have any extractions (especially prior to an event), It is advised to let the Medical Aesthetician aware of this prior to the treatment.

What should I do with my skin post-treatment?

We recommend the use of sunscreen post-treatment, regardless of the time of year, as harmful UV rays are present even during the winter months. UV rays are also present with the use of technology such as cell phones, computer screens and televisions. Our Medical Aestheticians and Front Desk staff can assist in choosing the sunscreen best suited for you as we have an array of options to choose from. If your skin begins to purge (small breakouts) this is completely normal (as mentioned in the downtime section). Just be sure not to pick at your skin as it may cause more irritation and continue to use a gentle cleanser twice a day. Last but not least, be sure to book your next appointment to see optimal results. We recommend coming in once a month, unless otherwise specified.

Do you use tools for extractions?

At Skinprovement Medi Spa & Laser Clinic, we do not use tools or other technologies for extractions as the ones on the market are NOT Health Canada Approved. Some of these tools can cause damage to the skin resulting in scarring, bruising, capillary damage. It can also drive bacteria deeper into the skin, causing breakouts.

Do you use steam with your treatment?

Believe it or not, the use of steam can irritate the skin, cause dehydration, and is not suitable for anyone with asthma. Due to the nature of the treatment, with the inclusion of dermaplaning or other exfoliants, the use of steam can be aggressive. We make use of hot towels to soften the pores prior to extractions.

What do I need to do before this treatment?

Thankfully nothing. Just be sure to stop by 15 minutes prior to your treatment and call the clinic. Please be sure to complete the Intake Form and Covid-19 Questionnaire prior to entering the clinic.

Will I grow thicker hair?

There have been many misconceptions regarding the removal of peach fuzz. Removing peach fuzz (Vellus Hair) will NOT create darker, coarse hair (Terminal Hair) but rather helps to remove build up of dirt and oils in the follicles.

Can I just use a regular razor to my face?

Ising a regular razor to your face does not achieve the same result as a proper dermaplaning tool, which is an extremely sharp single-use surgical blade. Proper protocols and procedures, including prepping the skin and application of finishing products are a must, which is why we recommend a medical aesthetician to perform this treatment.
