Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any downtime for this treatment?

There is no downtime for this treatment. However, for clients that have sensitive skin or more reactive skin types, there may be a pink hue to their skin post-treatment. Any treatment that stimulates the skin may cause irritation. If this is your first treatment, or the first in a while (more than two months), purging (small breakouts) of the skin may appear. Long-term, this is amazing for preventing clogged pores and breakouts, leaving your skin smooth and clear. The good news, however, is that the purging effect on your skin is temporary. Once these pimples have cleared up, your skin will look healthier and clearer than ever. With any extractions, some swelling in the areas that are treated can take place.

What should I do with my skin post-treatment?

We recommend the use of sunscreen post-treatment, regardless of the time of year, as harmful UV rays are present even during the winter months. UV rays are also present with the use of technology such as cell phones, computer screens and televisions. Our Medical Aestheticians and Front Desk staff can assist in choosing the sunscreen best suited for you as we have an array of options to choose from. If your skin begins to purge (small breakouts) this is completely normal (as mentioned in the downtime section). Just be sure not to pick at your skin as it may cause more irritation and continue to use a gentle cleanser twice a day. Last but not least, be sure to book your next appointment to see optimal results. We recommend coming in once a month, unless otherwise specified.

Do you use tools for extractions?

At Skinprovement Medi Spa & Laser Clinic, we do not use tools or other technologies for extractions as the ones on the market are NOT Health Canada Approved. Some of these tools can cause damage to the skin resulting in scarring, bruising, capillary damage. It can also drive bacteria deeper into the skin, causing breakouts.

What do I need to do before this treatment?

Thankfully nothing. Just be sure to stop by 15 minutes prior to your treatment if you are new to the clinic, as the Front Desk Coordinator will ask you to fill in some information. Leave the rest to us!

Will I break out after the treatment?

It's very common for Acne to get worse before it starts getting better. This is usually because the skin tends to go through a detox phase. The breakouts that happen during this time were going to happen anyway, they've just had a bit of a hurry along with the change of skin care routine. Your skin is on a skin cycle.

Should this be done in a series?

This treatment should be done once a month, however, in some cases, our Medical Aestetician might advise you to do a treatment of four (once a week for four weeks).

What can I add-on to accellerate the treatment?

The Laser Acne Peel can be added to this treatment, as well as the LED LightStim. You can always discuss these options with your Medical Aesthetician.

Are the results permanent?

Unfortunately, there are several different types of acne that require array of treatments needed. We recommend a skin treatment once a month for optimal results. Please feel free to consult your Medical Aesthetician for your specific skin care plan.
